Fond Memories Of South Gippsland

Posted Thursday 15th April 2010 at 22:14 by Francis Duggan
Fond memories of South Gippsland I always will retain
And in my flights of fancy I visit there again
In Summer the hills of Archies Creek are looking gray to brown
Overlooking the ocean at Kilcunda close to Wonthaggi Town.

On the coastal drive between Inverloch and Cape Paterson many a breath taking view
And beautiful Harmers Haven it's equals are so few
Thousands of centuries before Gippsland got an explorer's name the home of the Bunurong

A Self Professed Know It All

Posted Thursday 15th April 2010 at 22:11 by Francis Duggan
Of Nature so much he does claim for to know
But he cannot tell apart a currawong from a crow
A difference that should be not that hard to see
He does not seem that very clever to me
The only similarity between a crow and a currawong is that they both can fly
And the more we think we know the less we do know to him does apply
On a simple thing he had made the wrong call
His type are not rare a self professed know it all
And though he could not...

All Eagles Are Large Birds Of Prey

Posted Thursday 15th April 2010 at 22:08 by Francis Duggan
All eagles are large birds of prey they usually kill to eat

The workings of Nature to know of too big a thing for me
Though those with degrees in Natural Sciences such things try...

By Northern Hills

Posted Thursday 15th April 2010 at 22:05 by Francis Duggan
The cattle in farm sheds are bellowing for silage or hay
By northern hills in the cold gray dawn of the day
And frost in the fields by the ditch and hedgerow
In weather quite cold quite cold enough for to snow.

In bare fields the chirps of the migrant redwings one does hear
They fly to breed to their northern home when the Spring days are near
In late January seven weeks from the Northern Spring
The hungry birds never in mood for to sing...

The Ralph Illidge Sanctuary

Posted Wednesday 14th April 2010 at 22:42 by Francis Duggan
Ralph Illidge is between Cobden and Warrnambool where manna gum and stringybark abound
A place that has been set aside for Nature with peace and beauty present and around
The chirpings and songs of the woodland birds that live there the leafy nests of the ringtail possums on the trees
The distinctive gruntings of the male koalas can be heard carrying in the freshening breeze
Brown butterflies and their cousin whites are flitting in the sunshine of a very warm Summer's...
