On Birds With Diseased Feet

Posted Monday 12th April 2010 at 22:41 by Francis Duggan
Of late I've seen birds such as magpie larks, gulls and magpies
On the ocean foreshore or Nature strip of the street
With only stumps where their legs should be
Or walking lame with very sore feet.

Could they be victims of human pollution
Since they live and suffer in such a way
Victims of pesticide used for weed control
More birds I am seeing with diseased feet every day.

Humans have a negative impact on Nature
On that...

Climate Refugees

Posted Monday 12th April 2010 at 22:37 by Francis Duggan
You will not find much signs of life where crops or grass can't grow
Where rain refuse to fall death comes painful and slow
The survivors become climate refugees
In camps where millions live in hopes for visas to Lands overseas

The gift of imagination is a marvellous thing
In his poems to Nature the birds whistle and sing

When the air it is full of the buzzing of bees
He may not be acclaimed as one of literary...

Koroit Dawn

Posted Monday 12th April 2010 at 22:32 by Francis Duggan
The gray dawn is breaking above Koroit Town
And at this time of day few trucks pass up and down
To and from Warrnambool the City by the sea
When the silver billed magpie pipes on the gum tree
To welcome the dawn in his beautiful song
A voice of Australia one should not get wrong
His warbling notes echo down the quiet street
As the shades of darkness to daylight retreat
The black and white Aussie known as magpie lark
Is singing pee wee...

Far North Of This Country

Posted Sunday 11th April 2010 at 22:52 by Francis Duggan
Far north of this Country my Life's journey began
And by the Boggeragh Hills I grew into a man
Some I went to school with at rest forever lay
Whilst the others are showing the wear of time's decay.

Far north of This Country of the kangaroo
Of wombat, rosella and koala, lory and cockatoo
Of wattles and pittosporums and eucalypt trees
Of this marvellous Land of the Southern seas

In December when Finnow in flood waters of brown...
