Australia The Great Land

Posted Saturday 10th April 2010 at 23:08 by Francis Duggan
Australia that has inspired song, story and rhyme
An old Land that was old before the Dreamtime
Before the first dinosaur or the first gum tree
Australia existed surrounded by sea
Many thousand of centuries before the first people to it came
Australia was an old Land one without a name
Those who call it a young Country have got it all wrong
To ancient pre history it does surely belong
'Tis not of a young Country that one should speak

On Looking For God

Posted Saturday 10th April 2010 at 23:03 by Francis Duggan
On looking for God I searched in bush and tree
But Nature's green beauty is all I did see
I looked in the river and I looked in the rill
And I looked in the lake in the vale by the hill
In the scrub and the grass and around me everywhere

Where the sun seldom shines on a January day.

The distinctive harsh...

The Intelligence Of Crows

Posted Saturday 10th April 2010 at 22:55 by Francis Duggan
One of the most intelligent birds in the World would have to be the crow
Of the versatility of the corvid family those who know of birds do know
At the verge of the Townpark lake a few days ago saw them in the water soak pieces of bread
Of most other birds as intelligence goes crows are well ahead
Through droughts and hungry Seasons crows know how to survive
And in the harshest of environments they have been known to thrive
Of their versatility and cleverness...

The Fields Of My Past

Posted Friday 9th April 2010 at 22:45 by Francis Duggan
In distance they do seem a long way from me
And it does seem that them I will never more see
Those old fields a mile to two from Millstreet Town
That I used to love when my hair was dark brown.

I left those old fields some two decades ago
When Clara wore his hat of December snow
The sky clouded over it was threatening more rain
And stormwater was gurgling in the roadside drain.

Yet I can see the old fields when I visualize...
