The Polar Ice Caps Melting

Posted Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 00:49 by Francis Duggan
The Polar ice caps melting as the sea levels rise
A World of flooded coastal Lands not hard to visualize
In the Arctic in a decade from now there may not be a Polar Bear
So many species of birds and animals on the endangered list and so many species rare
To combat Global warming I cannot say I've done my best
As an environmentally aware person I have not passed the test
Above the coastal city black smog lines in the sky
Of droughts and floods, storms,...

In The Cool Duhallow Spring

Posted Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 00:45 by Francis Duggan
The yellow primroses are blooming on the bohreen ditch today
And the nesting birds are singing in the morning cool and gray
And the sparrows on barn rafters build their straggly nests of hay
And the swallows have returned from warm climates far away
To fly above the old fields in search of flying insects their source of food
And on shed rafters build cup shaped mud nests for to raise another brood
I still love Mother Nature loved her since I was a boy...

On Hearing A Musk Duck

Posted Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 00:42 by Francis Duggan
'Tis the call of the musk duck unmelodious though clear

But the male an interesting bird to look at how Nature created him
With a dark fleshy pouch beneath his...

The Land Will Be Here Forever

Posted Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 00:38 by Francis Duggan
I am not saying anything that's new it has often been said before
We are temporary caretakers of the land just that and nothing more
The land will be here forever and we are born to die
The same fate for the billionaire as for you as well as I
Us humans are mere mortals we die in our own pain
We leave the land forever but the land it does remain
The land is part of Nature and off of the land we live
And from the land we take and take and back to her...

On A Day Like Today

Posted Wednesday 5th May 2010 at 00:33 by Francis Duggan
Such beautiful weather around twenty degrees
White butterflies dancing in the sunshine and breeze
That blows through the park in a southerly way
So good to be living on a day like today
The magpie is fluting on the blackwood tree
And who could mistake the song of the pee wee
And everywhere I turn to look I can see
That the beauty of Nature is all around me
Though little of her ways we can claim to know
So much to our Earth Mother all...
