This blog is intended to follow my progress this year in my pursuit of obtaining some worthwhile bird photographs.
Very much a beginner, with limited funds but almost unlimited time, I want to capture photographs that are more than mere record shots. I am not expecting many rare or even unusual species, but want to do justice to any bird that cares to pose for me.
Wish me luck and good light.

Worth the wait

Well, my new lens arrived yesterday lunchtime.
I didn't have a lot of time to play with it as I had to cut the grass - back and front! I was very happy with the way it handled and the "photographs" I took with it through the window showed that it was going to produce the goods.
This afternoon, I nipped out into the garden at half time in the FA cup semi-final. (WBA were robbed). A Dunnock was singing in the apple tree and I was able to approach to within about five metres. I had the Kenko 1.5 converter on and was pleased to see that both auto focus and IS worked. The sun was trying to shine, but the sky behind the bird was pretty grey. The shots I got were pleasantly sharp. Not bad for hand-holding what is the equivelant to a 720 lens!! (see Gallery).
I think I am going to enjoy using this lens for stalking around the lake.
I go there on Monday. It's a shame the weather has turned bad again. It is hailing right now and snow and sleet showers are promised for the next few days.
Typical.
Still. So far, so good.
