In The Shadows Of The Hills

Posted Monday 8th March 2010 at 22:10 by Francis Duggan
The road winds up and down
To and from the little mountain town
In the shadows of the hills
Of the free flowing mountain rills
Where the skylark upwards fly
Like a small speck in the sky
His song melodious and clear
Is so pleasant for to hear
In the high woodlands in the Spring
The nesting birds whistle and sing
Splendid views for miles around
From the foothills of the higher ground
Where peace and beauty meet...

Late Winter In The Yarra Ranges

Posted Monday 8th March 2010 at 22:08 by Francis Duggan
On the tall mountain ash trees from here far away
The white cockatoos are squawking in Selby today
And the yellow eyed pied currawong are singing again
Some refer to them as the dark birds of rain.

The Volcanic Rocks Of Kolor

Posted Monday 8th March 2010 at 22:04 by Francis Duggan

As the ever burning lava flowed onwards towards the sea
And the countryside...

Our biological clock it keeps on ticking fast
And few things in life for long periods do last
At birth the dice of our destiny is cast
Though as we age we do hang on to the past.

Whoever said it first was not broadcasting a lie
That the longer we live the sooner we will die
Though many in an after life do believe
The karma we deserve is what we receive.

The leaves of late Autumn turn brown and then fall
To the bosom of...

On Seeing Musk Duck At Hopkins River

Posted Saturday 6th March 2010 at 20:52 by Francis Duggan
So little about them I can claim to know
Though my wonder at their ways only seem to grow
From where they live one can hear the ocean tide
In the Hopkins River the musk duck reside.

Though I've seen their kind much further inland at Hamilton Lake
And I can recognize the female from the drake
With a lobe of flesh on his chin under his bill
That at his own whims he can deflate or fill.

In her nest of lichen and reeds lined with...
