In The Far Wooded Hills

Posted Friday 5th March 2010 at 20:30 by Francis Duggan
Away from the noisy streets of the far town
Where day and night the noisy traffic buzz up and down
In the wooded hills three miles off of the highway
In a beautiful place it is so quiet today.

Mid August two weeks from the calendar Spring
The magpies in the town park all night and day sing
And who could mistake the song of the pee wee
But a far quieter place it keeps calling to me.

In the far wooded hills there's a chill in...

A Wintery Day

Posted Friday 5th March 2010 at 20:26 by Francis Duggan
The sun hidden in dark gray clouds Winter wears her shroud of gloom
But on the camellias and the magnolias the pink and white flowers bloom
And though the wind with a damp cold chill is blowing from north to south
Even in the depths of Winter Nature's beauty is about
The soft chirpings of the crimson rosellas so pleasant for to hear
Their notes do not seem to vary at any time of year
And the flute like notes of the magpie in the wooded hillside ring

An August Day In Olinda

Posted Friday 5th March 2010 at 20:23 by Francis Duggan
A gray fog all but shrouds the tall mountain ash trees
And there is a chill in the wintery breeze
In August in Olinda a cold time of year
Though Spring to the hills it is drawing ever near
In the wooded gullies where birdlife abound
The laughter of the kookaburra resound
And the karrawang call of the pied currawong
The bird that is said that has rain in it's song
The Yarra Ranges the artists and poets does inspire
And of singing it's...

An August Morning In The Suburbs

Posted Friday 5th March 2010 at 20:19 by Francis Duggan
Despite the coldness in the wintery showers
The flowering gum she wears her bright red flowers
Stormwater gurgling in the roadside drain
And rainbow lories chirping in the rain
Mid August two weeks from the southern calendar Spring
The ways of Nature an amazing thing
The Aussie magpies build their stick nest high on tree
And the male bird pipes to proclaim his territory
Of Nature little I can claim to know
To her kingdom her Seasons...

None Greater Than Nature

Posted Thursday 4th March 2010 at 20:45 by Francis Duggan
She has lived forever and will live forever more
And what can be said of Nature that's not been said before
Her beauty the artists and writers inspire
And of singing her praises could one ever tire.

None greater than Nature despite what many do say
And great scientists are learning from her every day
Yet of her well kept secrets we never will know
And the shroud of mysticism around her does grow.

It is a fact of life and facts...
