A Marsh Surprise

A Marsh Surprise (Rallus elegans)

I've spent a lot of hours in Maryland marshes, but had never seen a rail before these two just stepped out of the tall grass right into my path.
I knew right away I was going to get lucky, and even held my breath for a moment.
This hobby has its disappointments, but the pleasant surprises make up for it.

LOL yes, they sure do, don't they Hugh. What an incredible bit of luck you had to be there just as they came out..... and with camera in hand too!!

A great picture you've taken of your rails - very well done lad.

How exciting, Hugh, and what a fabulous shot. Very nicely focused, lit and composed.
