A Perfect Snowflake

A Perfect Snowflake (Cardinalis cardinalis)

We had quite a snow storm yesterday and got another ten inches of snow after getting ten inches of snow on Friday and Saturday. The poor fellows working on the power lines are still repairing the damage from the ice storm a week and a half ago. Miserable conditions for them. There are still 10,000 people in NH without power. Not us thank heavens, but I really feel for those poor folks who are still without heat and light in this cold.

Anyway, I was able to get out to the hide for a couple hours during the height of the storm and what a day it was! We had HEAPS of birds, literally hundreds of finches were in the feeders as well as lots of Juncos, Sparrows, Jays, Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Titmice, Chickadees, Doves, Wrens and not one pair but two pair of Cardinals. The air around the feeders was alive with birds I couldnt believe it! It was snowing so hard that I didnt get too many images that were keepers (the lens had some troubles focusing with the heavy snowfall) but I had so much fun trying for photos and enjoying the birds. I was astonished when I opened this file and saw that beautiful, perfect snowflake sitting on his black mask. Hope you enjoy this surprise as much as I did! Cheers!

Deanne, I have just checked out your last four posts, and I love them all, as I do all of your work. But this image really takes the biscuit, and that snowflake is definately the works. I have NEVER seen such a detailed close-up, this shot is so beautiful, I have borrowed it to my faves, thanks, and you and yours have a great New Years.

;) A wonderful suprise, indeed! Looks like a small snowy star, contrasting beautifully with the black and red little feathers of the cardinal!:t::t::t:

Perhaps its lucky?.....Perhaps you should buy a lottery ticket?.....Perhaps, if you win, you should remember who told you it was lucky?

Lovely photograph, Deanne......as always!!

Forget the Cardinal, that snowflake is outrageous! Spectacular catch, indeed!!! Deanne, hats off.

Deanne, this is an outstanding image, love the colours and the added value of the snow, very well done.
