A Winter sunrise over Kingfisher lake

A Winter sunrise over Kingfisher lake (N/A)

This early morning shot shows the rising sun just breaking through the mist and reflected in the frozen surface of the lake where our local Kingfishers nest - I do hope the birds are managing to catch some fish during the current cold snap!

What a beautiful image! A lovely spot to enjoy your Kingfishers! How do they manage when the pond is frozen?

Wow! This is a spectacular scene. Would have loved to have seen it in person but this is the next best.

Thank you all for your kind words - much appreciated.
"How do they manage when the pond is frozen?" - well Deanne, they do struggle during prolonged severe weather and many migrate to the coast in the search for ice-free fishing grounds. Thankfully, at my local site one end of the lake (out of shot on the left) has lots of low overhanging trees and this tends to keep that part ice-free and it is, in any case, one of the Kingfishers favoured feeding areas. They also feed at a number of other ponds, including my own garden pond in which I keep an area free of ice for them by the continuos running of an air pump. In fact we had a visit only yesterday.
