A Woodpecker-sized bite
From Saturday the 17th, a little after 12 noon, clear and sunny, but cold. When I spotted this male Red-Bellied Woodpecker approaching the feeder, I slowly made my way, in a crouched position, from the porch to the driveway and sort of "hid" behind the side of my car, resting the camera on the car's roof. To my delight, this Woodpecker let me take numerous shots while he was feeding on the "Peanut Treat" suet cake.
Habitat
meadow, farmland, horse pasture
Location
backyard, near Fort Ashby, WV
Date taken
1-17-15
Scientific name
Melanerpes carolinus
Equipment used
Olympus SP-510 UZ
Thanks so much, Rosanna, and Sue & Simon. After I posted this, I realized the Woodpecker is in the same pose as he was in a photo I posted a few days ago, except in this one, of course, he has that big hunk of suet in his bill. The two photos were taken on different days, though. My apologies; I probably should have chosen a different photo!
