Acorn Woodpecker (Composite) (Melanerpes formicivorus)

I put this together to differentiate the gender of this woodpecker. If you look at the head of each bird you'll see a subtle difference in the color pattern. Do you see it? The bird on the post has a black band bisecting the white of it's face, and the red crown. This denotes it as a female. I'll leave it to you to determine which of the birds was added to the image.

A very good explanation on the two woodpeckers Mark, if you had not mentioned what you had done I would never have known. Very clever and way past my computer skills, think I will just stick to shooting in jpeg. Still a great photo, very well done.

What a great picture - such clever work too very well done.

The plumage difference is so obvious, when you know, isn't it LOL.

A super picture - thanks Mark.

Very talented piece of work Mark. I didn't spot the difference to be honest, very well done.

Excellent job with the composite. I can't even see where you've blended them together.
