Adelie Penguin Colony, Pygoscelis adeliae
Carsten Borchgrevinks (1898 1900) hut at Cape Adare surrounded by the largest Adelie Penguin, pygoscelis adeliae, rookery in Antarctica, The Trans Antarctic Mountains and the Ross Sea.
Carsten Borchgrevink (1898 1900) returned to Antarctica in the "Southern Cross" and he and seven others were the first to over winter in Antarctica in 1899 at Cape Adare. The zoologist Nicolai Hansen died on 14 October 1899 becoming the first person to be buried on the Antarctic continent. During their stay they sledged to 78 50S, setting a new southerly record.
Today the Adelies have taken over the site during the short summer.

Interesting facts about the colony and its exploration. Guess you had an intensive feeling during the visit of this historic site. The penguins are just too great to see, tfs for sharing.
