'Akohekohe (Palmeria dolei)

The 'akohekohe (Palmeria dolei) or crested honeycreeper is a species of Hawaiian honeycreeper. It is endemic to the island of Maui in Hawaii. Its natural habitat is wet forests dominated by koa (Acacia koa) and ohia lehua (Metrosideros polymorpha) on the windward side of Haleakaia; at elevations of 4,200 to 7,100 feet (1,300 to 2,200 m). It is the largest honeycreeper on the island at 6.5 to 7 inches (17 to 18 cm) in length.
