Alligator: Keeper of the Everglades (Alligator mississippiensis)

I debated about posting this picture, a little to graphic, specially on a community that love birds. The reality is the alligator is a very important part of the Everglades ecosystem. One of the gator roles is protecting birds chicks from predators. Birds choose to nest on alligator holes, the alligators offer protection from reptiles and mammals that otherwise will have easy access to bird nest.

You are right, a shocking photo to look at and yet I know it is all part of nature. Stunning shot all the same. Your information about the Alligators protecting bird nests is very interesting, something I didn't know, thanks.

It is what it is; I don't judge. People who do are taking a human centrist point of view and can only project anthropomorphic, abstract concepts that have no relevancy on acts such as this one protraying (in this excellent image) moments of the indifference of nature. Well done. :t: :t: :t: :t: ;)

It's nature is all!!! It happened, you were there to record it and as your interesting information said...its all part of nature. :t::t:

Great shot. It's not really different to all the pictures we see of birds with a mouthful of insects.

Superb capture Raul!! we have lots of graphic images on Forum depicting Raptors and Gulls doing the same thing, as has been said"its nature" :t::t::t:

So I guess this bird didn't get the protection it was looking for... Great picture. :t: :t:

And in the Everglades is where you can keep 'em! Yikes, that is one mean looking reptile but a brilliant and dramatic shot all the same.

Very well done.

Excellent image Raul. Yes, we all love birds here, but hopefully we also realize that nature IS nature, and acts such as these occur on a regular basis.
