Amazon Kingfisher
Amazon Kingfisher (Chloroceryle amazona) Subspecies mexicana has been described as a subspecies which is slightly larger with slight plumage differences than the nominate but these differences appear to be clinal and most authors believe subspecies mexicana best be synonymized under the nominate. If recognized this bird would belong to subspecies mexicana. Photographed at Canopy Lodge in El Valle de Antn, Cocle Province, Panama. This bird was perched over Rio Guayabo. Riparian, surrounded by secondary humid forest at ca. 622 m (2,042 ft) elevation.
