American Avocet at Dusk
The American Avocet summers and breeds on the plains of the western United States and Canada. I came across this one in a shallow creek, methodically focused on getting its last meal of the day. The waning sun seemed to be at entirely the wrong angle, but I had no choice so went ahead and took the shot anyway!
