American Goldfinch
Deanneart

American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis)

The weather has been unseasonably cold the last several days with temps way below freezing and a blustery wind. The garden birds have been eating their little heads off and continue to go through three pounds of sunflower hearts per day!!!!! Incredible!

I'm still seeing a flock of at least 60 of these birds in the garden at one time and there are probably more as I can't see the tree tops from the hide. When they take a break from the eating they fly off to the tops of the birch trees and look like yellow ornaments in the tops of the tree. Very cute. They make quite a bit of noise having their little finchy chats up there. Probably disscussing the good eats at "Deanne's All You Can Eat Buffet"!

Thanks so much everyone! I appreciate your kind comments!

KC, I keep telling the finches that they need to move on. I really would rather not feed that many all winter. I've told them that there is lots of good eating at your place but so far they haven't listened. ~~ have you gotten any Juncos yet? My large flock of them is down to just seven or eight birds now but I've picked up three White-throated Sparrows in the last couple days.

An other lovely sensitive portrait,Deanne! Love especially here the expression on the face of this siskin and the harmony in the tones in the whole image :t::t:

Gorgeous shot, Deanne, well done!!!

Junco's have been spotty, and most of my goldies left, only have a few, but picked up lots of House Finches, Sparrows, and Bluebirds.

WOW, lovely composition with the little greedy chap "sandwiched" between two twigs, and love the hues all over the pic too!!! Another wonder from your "bistro", Deanne!!! :t: :t:
