American Goldfinch (Carduelis tristis)

I love to watch the birds preening then finishing up with a beautiful stretch of their wings and tail. Most times these Goldfinches are perched pretty high up in the Mountain Ash tree when doing this behavior so I was lucky to catch this little beauty in his stretch on a low branch. It was early in the day with not much light (so what's new this time of the year, this close to the solstice?) so I didn't have a fast enough shutter speed to catch that back wing sharply. But there is always another day to try again!

I actually like the motion blur; brings the image to life!!!!! Just beautiful detail and colors. Getting the wing spread and tail spread puts it over the top for me!!!!!

A nice capture Deanne. I love shots like this as well.

P.S. Could you please send them on their way now? They are way late this year.
