American Lady (Vanessa virginiensis)

This widespread species is similar to the Painted Lady, but has larger rear-wing spots with bluish centers and a gap in the dark forewing bar. The small white forewing dot surrounded by orange is unique to this species. This one is nectaring on Pacific Aster
(Symphyotrichum chilense).
