Anna's in the rain
Anna's hummingbird photographed on Jan. 20, 2016, Mariposa, Calif. He was nearly deleted as I was using frames I saw nothing after a first inspection to practice with various IPhoto devices. Then I noticed the sliver of sun breaking up a rainstorm at dawn, just cresting the Sierras, and it had lit up that beautiful head. The focus held when I cropped it, the first time ever I've managed a hummer in focus. Added contrast and he popped out. Total luck, and I'm OK with that.

What a wonderful start you've made to your Gallery with this beautiful hummer. The colours are just stunning!

Welcome to Birdforum Bob - I'll look forward to seeing some more of your pictures.

Thank you so much. I was so excited when I saw that violet head in focus. I'm loving this winter. I get dozens of birds every day, from the hummers to bushtit and titmouse and towhee, (two kinds), and I've seen three different woodpeckers. We also have a raven pair and roost of turkey vultures and numerous owls I've only heard. It's the spot at the moment and I've done all I can do keep them coming.

Sorry if I went over. I thought I put three up yesterday, but I see the gull was after midnight. No problem. I got the same hummer again today. He's allowing closer access now that we're pals. But it's very similar to the one I posted, so I may not bother. I will re-post the bushtits tomorrow. Thank you and I'm enjoying this site. I'm a writer, a journalist for more than 25 years, now retired. I'm thinking of a blog about birding around my mobile home. I'm trying to find someone interested in a humorous, self-depricating regular post about my style. One I've already written is about the day the bushtits shook my world.
