Armatorius????

Armatorius????

I took this picture on 4th July on my local heath. It is obviously an Ichneumonid but which one I am uncertain. Although I have questioned it to be an Armatorious, I do not think it is because; a, it does not have a yellow tip on the tail, b, it does not have black femors, c, I can see no spur on the thorax. Can anyone please identify the species for me?

What a beauty he is Tony.

I see Stanley has kindly come up with a name for you, otherwise I was going to direct you to the Insect forum.

A super picture this lad - very well done.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and especially Stanley for his suggestion as to species. I think I will have to go with Amblyteles armatorius even though all the pictures I can find show this to have a yellow tip to the abdomen and black hind legs which the insect in my picture does not have. Perhaps it is a simple colour variation. Birds are much easier eh??
