Asian Fairy Bluebird (Irena puella)

On my visit to Kerala in the month of May.... bagged a couple of lifers...this is one of them...captured on my morning trip through the plantation adjoining the resort.... heard a growl from nearby thicket about fifty feet away and backed off...was not sure if the animal in question were wild boar which were rampant or a big cat..though I was assured that they were no big cats about by the staff at the resort...faced similar situation on day two about half a kilometer away..this time more vocal, directly in front of me with lots of rustling in the cardamom plantation that I was walking through... I was not curious..just backed off as fast as my feet could carry.... both times I was all alone by myself ...about a week later, noticed a column in national paper (The Hindu) about an attack by a tiger at an adjoining plantation about ten kilometers away from where I had stayed...a dog was killed and one person was mauled but managed to escape.

Oh my! What an experience :eek!: My son and a neighbor had a similar experience once when camping in my parents' yard in California - heard growling outside the tent. So my Dad put out a catch-and-release trap, big enough to capture a Raccoon, which he thought was most likely. Next morning the bait (a piece of chicken) was gone and the trap was shut, but no animal was inside it. So the animal must have had a long enough reach to grab the bait without being inside the trap. Later my mother saw claw marks a couple of meters up a tree in the yard. Mountain lion :eek!:

Good thing you backed away! And congrats on this stunning bird and lifer :t: :t:
