Attention-seeking Dipper

Attention-seeking Dipper (Cinclus cinclus)

We live near Monmouth in South Wales close to a stream. Over the last week this dipper has appeared constantly at the window and seems to be performing some kind of courtship or competitive ritual. He walks in circles on our window railings, ruffles and preens, sings to us or simply stares through the window for 10-15mins at a time. He also frequently flaps against the glass. We would find it endearing if it wasn't for the fact he leave bird poo all over our windows.

As I said on your thread Sarah... this is really unusual for a Dipper.

It should only happen for a few weeks while they are being territorial and probably only at certain times of the day when the light is catching that particular window. Is it possible for you to pull a curtain across, or perhaps put a plant or something in front of the window, that might stop the reflection, or at least break it up.

Let us know how you get on.

Lol, I wonder if its sees itself in the window and is challenging that dipper it sees in the window. Fantastic picture and a fabulous narrative Sarah! Thanks for sharing!!!!
