Australasian Grebe (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae)

This little diving bird is famous for almost not having a tail and being quite noisy at times, so guessing this is why it's gotten this name and if I was to give it a name I would name it exactly the same. Here is the story of my first encounter:
I found it in a pond where it was cruising from one end to another.
This pond has a very limited visibility from the side, so I had to run from one end to another to take a picture of it.
One time it will decide to reverse 2 meters before the camera can see it, another time it will stay under water for too long or re-appear at another end of the pond.
As you can see even after so many attempts this image is still far from perfect, sun lights up the rear side of the thing, rather than the front...
- YOU LITTLE GRE%$#! - this is what local residents heard. :)

I think your wee grebe is actually Australasian Grebe, which looks very similar to our Little Grebe, but I've a feeling it doesn't quite reach Australia? I call them Dabchicks!

You've a super picture of him Alex - very well done lad.
