Autumn Ladys-tresses - Spiranthes spiralis (Spiranthes spiralis)

When I first saw photographs of this orchid in field guides I thought it was about a foot tall, now I know different. This plant is 8cm tall, or around 3 inches in old money. Fortunately it often grows in closely grazed grassland and once you get your eye in hundreds can be found in the right location, though paradoxically they are easy to overlook. This was the only one I could find with sufficient florets open to warrant a photograph but Ill probably go back again in a week or so.
