We call these "double banded plovers" in Australia (same species name). Charadrius bicinctus — Double-banded Plover

Their numbers are in decline in Australia (they migrate here after breeding in New Zealand)

Similar thoughts ... but they are in decline (due to dpastern) and this cutie has to take the "banded" burden. Hopefully with a positive development for the species in a nearby future.
