Barred Antshrike (Thamnophilus doliatus)

This bird was seen in the Yucatan in February of this year. Our guide had been "chasing" this species for some time to get a good picture. Usually they are near the ground and deep in the brush. He decided to leave his camera in the car for this short walk and up popped this bird. Sat and posed for several minutes. Lesson: keep the camera at hand; you never know when an opportunity will happen.
Location

Sensational close-up! We hoped to see these in Honduras last month with no luck.

It sure comes by its name honestly ;) This is one awesome portrait shot!

That is a great image!! and you are so right...I would hate to count the number of time I left the camera for just a few minutes and came to regret it!

Very well done!

Thanks everyone for looking at my picture. Some individual birds just seem to enjoy posing. This one turned his head and body every which way and even when he was facing backwards, he would turn his head and look at me. Unfortunately not all the birds enjoy it so much.
