Beach Stone-curlew (Esacus neglectus)

I spotted this bird on the beach about 40 m from me, stopped and began the step by step inch by inch stalking procedure, only to find the bird was interested in something near by and walked 20m towards me then turned and did this little soft shoe shuffle in the sand before walking off again. Some mornings its hard others not so difficult.

I'm sure you must be paying these birds to perform for you. ;)

What a remarkable sight - I wonder what goes through a bird's head at such a time? Do they dream? Play air guitar in front of a mirror in private?

It's a great shot Trevor, thank you.

Well done with the picture. I found that this bird to be one of the hardest to get near to except when they were nesting, did you notice weather it had a youngster nearby, they blend so well with the ground. The nest is only a scrape in the gravel and the single egg is very speckled.
