A Bearded vlulture portrait I did back in 2000. Just 30 years old and inspired at this period of my life by the art of Carl Brenders , I tried to create a proper portrait of this gorgeous vulture. Gouache colours.

Excellent painting Spizaetos - I too admire the talent of artists like Brenders - I have heard people who say why paint lifelike images of wildlife (or anything) when a photo could do as well but such people don’t understand the freedom painting has to impose your own lighting and habitat - painting allows you to control the narrative with the result that such works like yours and Brenders have tremendous dramatic qualities to me as well as being breathtakingly stunning in the detail.

I can see how inspirational Carl's work must have been they're beautiful, aren't they.
