Belted Kingfisher

I love Cool's Pond. I have watched this guy and his mate for the past two years come to the pond in the fall. They will never let you close to them and if you try they fly off laughing at you in their brilliant chirping call. As a rule when I drive by the pond I look to see if they are at this familiar perch, a bridge railing watching for fish. Today was my lucky day! The only reason I could get close to him was because of the thick hanging branches of a weeping willow tree that acted as a blind and the few small holes that were in the foliage gave me an angle to this fellow without him detecting me.

Gorgeous close-up and a fabulous pose. I have similar dealings with Kingfishers in that they are so conspicuous but won't let me anywhere near them (lol). I love these lucky days though (lol)! Excellent Mark!!!!!!
