Bittern (Botaurus stellaris)

Another for the bored bird gallery! Posing at the Bittern watchpoint at Fisher's Green. Very pleased to get such good views - wish I'd had the 800mm lens the chap next to me had ;). No matter - chuffed to bits anyway!

Any experts on Bittern anatomy want to tell me what he is sticking out?

Looks to me like it's just swallowed a snake. Good capture anyway. Well done.
