Black-backed Woodpecker (Male) (Picoides arcticus)

This is a rare species in my area. But, due to the frequent fires, they have moved into the area. They are drawn to burned over areas. This is a species of three-toed woodpecker, four toes is the norm. A little trivia: a group of Black-backed woodpecker can be called a descent, drumming, or gatling of woodpeckers.

Outstanding capture! Congratulations on this rare sighting. Interesting that they're attracted to the burn areas. There are certainly plenty of them here too. By the way, I think "drumming" fits the best.
