Black-capped Chickadee (Parus atricapillus)

Love these busy little birds. They make me laugh on a regular basis. One of the best things about having a hide in the back garden is being able to spend the time observing the birds. The small group of Chickadees that come in to my feeders keep themselves quite busy stashing seed. They'll eat a few then go back to the feeder, get a seed then flit off to the Hydrangea tree and stash the seed in the bark. Usually in the late afternoons the female Downy Woodpecker goes into the tree and retrieves the seeds the Chickadees have put there during the day. Makes me laugh! I've also observed The Chickadees hiding seeds in the top openings of the reed fencing, doesn't make me laugh because the Grey Squirrels have shredded the top of the fence looking for the Chickadee stash. I'm having way too much fun!

Thanks so much everyone for your kind comments!

Gunter, I really do need the hide in winter as our temperatures here would keep me indoors. I have a small heater in the hide so I don't freeze to death when it's cold and windy, not to mention snowing and ice storms.

I love these birds too, Dean--they just seem so personal. Sometimes they are so flighty it's like they're laughing at us saying "can't catch me, haha" & other times they're so "into" what they're doing they'll have an attitude of "ok, I'll be nice & let you now". This is a great pic--nice close-up--B :)

Oh--we actually had snow flurries here yesterday--4 days ago it was 80 & now freezing!! It was nice to see the flurries, though--I do miss the snow sometimes--2 weeks of winter is all I need though :-O :-O :-O

A superb capture of a real cutie. Caught in a great pose to show it off well.

It is really hard to discern any difference between this one and our Carolina Chickadee.

This is a beautiful closeup Deanne.
