Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle

Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus)

Just when I thought I was retirring the camera for this trip aan this showed up high above Santiago Airport. Not the best shot but identifiable.
He went up and up off the tarmac thermal then buggered off north with good penetration. A treat

Always difficult to get an unexpected flight shot David.

You've done well in the circumstances - excellent stull laddie.
Thanks - the shape, colouring and beak profile all came through enough to identify - no detail tho. Gone from Chile tomorrow but maybe be back in 6 months to resume the second half of our trip.

Hi David.

For me looks like a Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle (Geranoaetus melanoleucus) and not a Condor.
Well I certainly have to bow to your expertise ....it was a long way up and it did not seem to have the wingspan. I also think that is what my partner and I saw but could not photograph. There is definitely a cowl too. Thanks.
