Black-Crowned Night Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax)

The bird allowed me to get within 5 feet of it. This is one of the less zoomed in photos but I thought the surrounding foliage was nice.

Extraordinary photograph, great detail, lighting and composition!

A sentimental favorite, a bird my little boys 35 years ago ID with me from various fishing trips, we and they had to figure out that noisy evening bird.
