Black-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus)

Black-headed Gulls seem to have had a good nesting season here with numerous juveniles, such as this in the harbor. The brown areas sometimes bleach paler or more cinnamon. They are best distinguished from similar species by their stout pinkish bill. This species ranges across Eurasia but is replaced in North America by the similar Bonaparte's Gull.
