Black-necked grebe

Black-necked grebe

There was a long story to this and when I went to upload there was a computer crash. This the short version.

Local birder says "we have 10 mins to see a BN grebe do I want a lift?". "Yes" was reply.

Got to site . As bird approached ,battery ran out, I re- positioned and then card ran out. I repositioned again then got the exposure wrong (blow out on breast)
Each time I reposition and lay on the ground the goose droppings got thicker (not good for my chest infection)! Guy said "god your keen". When I eventually got prepared I got the bird swimming away from me , I so wanted it swimming toward me.

I did manage some nice record shots of the bird with the water showing lovely green reflections.

We had to go.

Now you know why they say "Dancy, you are full of sh**

Loved it

Thanks Mike for the lift.

Bird shooting on the 13th day..;) A day to stay at home or born like lucky me. ;) You did get nice shots though, Adrian. But I know how it is after the best moments are gone andyou are still fighting with the camera. Something common there. One of the most annoying things is when you write a real long comment or description or what ever, the computer gets jammed.

Well it was well worth persevering. This is an excellent shot, swimming away or not.

When dedication pays off - crawling in the mud, jamming cameras, wrong settings, s..t everywhere: nothing can stop us - perhaps the wife ;) ... a good job Adrian, a well deserved capture!

A great shot,Adrian and i loved to read about your hardships getting the shot! ;);.....LOL By the looks of it i thought you went for a swim as well. Well deserved shot. :t:

Thanks each and all.

Ove , it's not really a hardship, it's part of the fun! Getting stopped by police (once on suspicion for being a terrorist),shot at whilst doing dippers, crawling in poo, getting stung by nettles, yelled at and abused by hoodies, threatened, yelled at by those excercising there hormones, housewives coming out to give me grief, getting SAS type blisters on my feet looking for black redstarts, and this evening being decended upon by a bank's security ....the list goes on. Thats what you get for being an urban bird photographer! I might add when I have been stopped by police they have always been completely understanding and indeed helpful. They once stopped the traffic so I could take pictures of kestrels at the nest and also assisted in stopping sandblasting around a black redstarts nest , thumbs up for GMP on that one.
