Black-throated Diver

Black-throated Diver (Gavia arctica)

This was a bird I really wanted to see. I grew up within two miles of Danson Park and the day before it turned up - Easter Sunday - I'd driven right past the lake on family commitments. It was Thursday before I could get time off work to see it and I was lucky, since that was its last day.
Habitat
Lake
Location
Danson Park, Welling, Kent
Date taken
27/3/08
Scientific name
Gavia arctica
Equipment used
Canon 40D, 600mm f4
Excellent timing, great detail + I like the water drops flying off the wings - super shot Clive.

I've seen these brilliant birds in Scotland only from a great distance. A great find and a great shot!

The diver showed extremely well, to the point where I couldn't fit it in the viewfinder.....round the wrong side of the lake, with the sun right in my eyes. Eventually I had no choice but to go round the other side and wait for it to go into the middle. It didn't show as well from that side, this shot is cropped a bit, but it was still reasonably close.
