Black-winged kite and prey (Elanus caeruleus)

We located this individual late in the afternoon in company of three British birders last Easter at Arrocampo reservoir in Extremadura. Next the morning I was lucky to relocate it in the same pole by the road and find a spot to park my van near the pole and position myself inside with digiscope and bean bag without disturbing him

After some twenty minutes preening the kite dived from the pole and at his first attempt grabbed what seems a water vole and eated it completely in front of me
