Black-winged Stilt, (juvenile) (Himantopus himantopus)

A handsome and elegant bird with very long legs, this allows the Stilt to have the advantage of wading in deeper waters. Feeds mainly on Insects from the surface of water, wet mud, and plant stems. A noisy bird, especially in the summer months.
Habitat
Prefers shallow reedy pools, flooded fields, rice paddies, salt pans and the shallows of salt lakes.
