Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla)

  • kim
Was delighted to see this female in my garden but disappointed with the poor light (1000 iso job) It has been noticeable this year the lack of birds in my garden compared to previous years at this time. Notably fieldfare and redwing.. I am assured it is a "one off" due to the good Summer and an abundance of natural food.

Great bird for the garden, Kim; I've a male turned up with the Chaffinches this year... he seems to like peanut butter with seeds mixed in

We've noticed a lot fewer birds lately, an unusually drastic fall in numbers through the Winter. We wonder if it may have something to do with the catastrophic Spring last year when a late frost killed off the blueberries and lingonberries. Perhaps that gave the birds less food through the Summer and Fall - fewer berries and also fewer insects eating those berries ...? Loads of rohans, but pretty much only the Waxwings like those ...? Well, we're just wondering. It's been a mild Winter, so that shouldn't be an explanation.

how cute flo (as Mali call her) is looking here, i got one all winter with a male, but i think they left, but will come hopefully next month and i make sure to send them to you.
