Blue-gray Gnatcatcher

Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (Polioptila caerulea)

Normally these birds barely stay still long enough for me to focus, but this one perched at extraordinarily close range and launched into a full preening session! The loud shutter sound didn't seem to trouble this bird at all.

Now I just need a California Gnatcatcher to do the same thing...
Habitat
coastal sage scrub
Location
White Point Nature Preserve, San Pedro, Los Angeles, CA, USA
Date taken
16 Oct 2008
Scientific name
Polioptila caerulea
Equipment used
Canon 450D + Canon 100-400mm + Canon 1.4x II, full frame (cropped only horizontally)
I just got my first shot of this little bird this past weekend. I'd never seen one before and they are so hard to photograph. Darn little things barely sit still for more than a few seconds. I posted the pic in the Bird ID forum. Then came here to check out other pics. This one is superb!!:t:
