Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata)

These birds are a laugh a minute lately. They are amazing piggies at the feeders. (No worries, I have enough feeders for the little guys too) Anyway, I've recently started putting out a mixed bird seed that has peanuts and other tree nuts on a platform feeder with the cold temps. The Jays think it's really great stuff! There are about eight Jays that come in like dive bombers several times a day. They swoop in gobble up as much as they can then fill their crops and beaks until there are literally three or four peanuts sticking out of their beaks and fly off with it. I'm assuming they are stashing it someplace as I can't imagine they could possible consume that much in a day.

Another well exposed shot under difficult light conditions. Lovely blue colouring as well. Great work. Boyd

What a beautifully taken shot, heard a lot about these, but never seen one, not disappointed by this excellent example either

Straight to my favourites Deanne - brilliant image. Well, off to fill my crop now, will be back for your gallery catch-up later.

Great shot ! Composition couldn't have been better. Excellent use of lighting and background !

A very fine image Deanne and lovely rendering of colours, up to your normal very high standard.

I have a fondness for the Blue Jay as well.
They have a lot of character :)
Love the colortones, nice & sharp with very good DOF & details.
Perhaps it would be better without the branch in front, but the image still rocks:t:
