When I saw this butterfly on Saturday I wasn't sure if it was a Ceylon Blue Glassy Tiger (Ideopsis similis), which I have seen a number of times, or something new. On checking the guide it was a Blue Tiger, a lifer for me.
:eek!: WOW, Mark, gorgeous creature!!! And beautifully snapped twig-hanging!!! Congrats on this lifer and the beautiful picture, very good job!!! :t: :loveme:
And lovely to see you have Butterflies around in October!!! :t:
Marian, in the tropical lowlands butterflies are present all year in good numbers with some species breeding continuously throughout the year. Numbers do increase quite a bit during spring and summer. The fallow rice fields around the village are full of Common Grass Yellows and Long-tailed Blues at the moment. In the forests there are quite a few Tiger & Crow species about and a few Swallowtails.
Congratulations on your Blue Tiger Mark, these guys migrate right down through Queensland to the mid North Coast of New South Wales, its quite a distance but I guess pales in comparison to the Wanderers
