Thank you for your words of appreciation. As Alan has said, in this particular instance the bird is indeed calling out loud rather than whistling. This specimen had taken residence in a barn-like structure for the winter next to my house and on that particular day, a sparrow-hawk tried to attack it (I'll put the sparrow-hawk photo up today) and after the sparrow-hawk had flown away, the thrush came out from its hiding and gave a number of loud cries, more like telling others the danger is over. It is at this point the photo was taken.
