Blue-winged Parrotlet

Blue-winged Parrotlet (Forpus xanthopterygius crassirostris)

Originally thought to be the larger Cobalt-winged Parakeet, but thanks to Paul Donahue, Rich Hoyer and others now corrected to the smaller, shorter tailed and more compact Blue-winged Parrotlet. They are green with slightly more yellow-green tones on the underparts as seen here. I suspect this is a female which lacks the blue wing and rump patches of the male. Three subspecies are currently recognized. This is the smaller F. x. crassirostris which is more yellow-green overall. This race is sometimes split as a full species, "Large-billed Parrotlet" under the name F. crassirostris.
