Brown Hawk Owl (Ninox scutulata)

This is the photo of the owl I wrote about in my blog. For those that didn't read it, this poor little guy ran into my car when I was coming home from work a few nights ago. It knocked him out and I had thought killed him. I brought him home (only 10 minutes away) and was deciding if I should donate his body to the wildlife center. Much to my relief, (and his I'm sure) he was alive and seemed to make a recovery as less than two hours later, when I opened the door to check on him, he flew off!
Habitat
Forest, suburbs, front of my car...
Location
Onna-Son, Okinawa, Japan
Date taken
14 Jan 2009
Scientific name
Ninox scutulata
Equipment used
Canon 50D w/100-400L
Good work Dan - if he'd been left on the road he would have been squashed for sure. Best wishes to him for a full recovery and a long happy life.

Thanks for the photo of this beautiful creature! :t:

Great post and sort of sad story to go along with it. I've yet to see an owl I could photograph in the wild on Okinawa. Could have something to do with my nocturnal habits !
