Brown Pelican in Great Darwin Bay (Pelecanus occidentales urinator)

Waiting to return to the ship in one of the zodiacs, we spotted this Brown Pelican in the late afternoon sun. In the distance you can see the rugged cliffs around the edge of the volcanic crater known as Great Darwin Bay on the south side of Genovesa Island.

I knew pelicans were big birds, but I'd no idea how big really, until I saw some in Australia!!

That's a super picture you've taken of this guy Helen, and quite a dramatic background too. Very well done lassie.
