Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis)

This pelican with pouch partially extended shows brownish head and back indicating an immature. It has been a banner year for them with exceptionally high numbers of this formerly endangered species along our coast. Upwards of 75-80% of the birds we have been seeing this year are immature indicating an outstanding nesting season on their breeding islands in Mexico.
